Have you heard about the Monopoly Game

MonopolyThere’s a trend I’ve been noticing everywhere lately – and I mean everywhere.

People want things easier.  No work, no thinking, do-it-for-me easier.

In fact, even Monopoly® – that 75-year-old time-tested board game has gone to electronic bank cards.  No more bills, no more “banker” counting money.

Playing “banker” is how I learned to make change and what I attribute to getting me my first job.  While I understand that Hasbro Company is catering to the “do-it-for-me” crowd, it saddens me to think of the children who won’t have the same experience if their parents purchase the “easy” version of the game.

Similar trends are emerging in small business.

In conversations, the same three phrases keep popping up:

  1. “2012 is going to be my year!”
  2. “That’s too much work”
  3. “I don’t have time to do all that”

Often followed by, “How did you do it?”

To build my business to where it is, I did the work necessary.  I learned from my mistakes along the way and help my clients avoid the same ones and others I’ve seen, while staying out of overwhelm.

We receive emails all the time which promise “6 figures in 6 weeks” or “$X thousands if you purchase this one product/piece of software”.

Truth is, we just have to do the work, or hire someone else to do it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Request to You:
I don’t believe that people aren’t willing to do the work.  I do believe people overall are overwhelmed.
And so the solution to making 2012 your year is to move steadily forward, ever closer to your goals and objectives for the year until you reach or surpass them.
The easiest way to do that?
Stay out of overwhelm.
The easiest way to do that?
Break things down into little chunks, bite-sized pieces if you will.
For example, offering a new program for your clients starts with research to see if it’s something they want before you do the work to create and launch it.
My request is that you let it be that simple.  Baby steps. . .one after the other without spending all waking hours on your business.  You’ll get further faster.
    The problem is the get-rich-quick scammers who mislead the newbies into becoming more get rich quick shills. Most people end up buying an endless stream of ebooks, video courses, or membership sites that tell them WHAT they need to do but never reveal HOW to actually DO IT. That keeps them buying more useless products until they give up or run out of money.
    What people need is to find just one person they can trust who has a system that actually works – and then to do what that system guides them to do. The trick is in knowing who you can trust.
      Hi Gail,
      I agree…there are a lot of BS artists out there who take advantage of business owners.  As with most things, due diligence is needed.
